To make the frame I started with cross beams. I made 8 beams from 5X5mm brass rod. They are basically similar to Eric's.

I asked a sheet metal shop to cut out 2mm mild steel sheets to rough sizes. Two of them for the frame plates were soldered together.

Edges were cleaned out by mill. I used roughing end mill with plenty of cutting fluid then finished with normal four flute end mill.

I attached printout of the hole locations to the work. I use DRO for positioning and attaching printout seems redundant, but it is good way to find out misreading of the drawing.

The openings of the frame were cut by slot drills.

All necessary holes were made.

Pedestals were cut by roughing end mill. It was much easier than ordinary four flute end mills. The accuracy is important for this job and I tightened the jibs of the mill beforehand.

The pedestals were finished with four flute end mill.

Recesses for spring shoes and horn stays were milled.

Mostly machined frame plates.
