When I decided to start live steam building, I checked around web and found very nice article and drawing of small scale live steam loco “Idlis” at Dave Watkins's site. I started to convert the drawings to metric and gathering the material. While doing this one of my friends introduced me a very nice book for small scale live steam, Brian Wilson's “Steam Trains in Your Garden.” I mail ordered it straight away and found this Australian book was really good, with plenty of photos and drawings. I saw some books for large scale models, but it was the first book I saw for small scale. Also the author belongs to my club.
I decided to build “ERIC” on the book as my first live steam loco. Actually I decided it more than half a year ago, and spent time to acquire machine tools, condition them and prepare materials. Now I am ready to start building it.
