I adjusted the valve position at this stage. I put the reverse lever at neutral (The textbook said to put the lever at forward position. However the valve position was controlled only by the combination lever function, i.e. lap + lead if the piston was at dead points. So I adjusted the valve position putting the reverse lever at neutral.), and put the piston at forward dead point. Then the valve position should be adjusted at the location where the admission port just started to open. This adjustment was very cumbersome because valve crosshead must be disengaged to turn the valve spindle.
In real steam locos (1:1 scale) the lead to be much smaller than lap. However in this ERIC design the lap seemed quite large. I think it would be necessary considering the dimensional error in small models was much larger than 1:1 models. Anyway the adjustment was only possible in step of 0.2mm because of M2 thread pitch of 0.4mm.
