I remade the dummy smoke box door. I got a piece of “brass” plate with proper thickness from a club member and trepanned it. However the plate was very hard to cut. I suspected it was not brass but bronze.

以前失敗したダミードアを作り直すことにします。クラブメンバーから分けてもらった適当な厚さの｢真鍮｣板をトレパニングで切り出します。でも、この板やたら硬いんだよね。どうもこれは真鍮ではなくブロンズであったようです。

The length of the trepanning tool was not enough. So cuts were made from both sides.

トレパニング・ツールの長さが足りないので両面からトレパニング。

I cut curved surface with scriber as same as before. The material was harder and it took more time to finish. Actually I felt using harder material was not bad because of much less opportunity of over cutting.

以前と同様にキサゲで曲面を削ります。真鍮より硬いので削るのにちょっと時間がかかりますが、削りすぎの心配もないし、別にブロンズでも問題ないな。キサゲの当てる角度は真鍮とはかなり違います。浅い角度がいいみたい。

Surface was finished with Scotchbrite.

スコッチ・ブライトで磨けばぴかぴかになります。

The door material was tightened too hard to the mandrel and I could not loosen it! I drilled out the centre of the mandrel and managed to loosen it.

大問題発生。工作物がヤトイから抜けなくなってしまった。真鍮の時は切削力が余りかからなかったのでよかったんですが、ブロンズの高切削力のためヤトイにえらく固くねじ込まれてしまった。抜けん！ヤトイのねじ部をドリルでさらって、やっと抜けました。

The M8 fine thread at the centre was removed by reamer.

中心のヤトイ固定用のM8細目ねじをリーマーでバカ穴にします。

I turned this part.

こんなものを挽きました。

This is used to fix dummy door and smoke box end plate.

これで、ダミードアを煙室扉に固定します。

I fixed the smoke box to the mill vice aligning by height gauge.

ハイトゲージを使って煙室の水平を出し。

Then I drilled a temporary fixing hole through smoke box and door. Door side hole was tapped and smoke box side hole was enlarged.

煙室、煙室扉を通して位置固定用の貫通穴を開け、扉側にタップを立て、煙室側の穴はねじが通るように拡げておきます。
