I gave up flanged end plates and remade them as same as the textbook. I cut them out by jewellers' saw.

ということで、管板を作りなおすことにしました。フランジは諦めます。糸鋸で外周を切り出し。

I filed them roughly and coated the edges with permanent marker. I pushed them in the barrel and filed the parts where the marker removed until nice fit obtained.

だいたいヤスリで削り。周囲にマーカーを塗って缶胴に押し込み、剥げたところをヤスリながら缶胴にぴったり合うように削ります。

Finished end plate. The maximum gap between the plates and barrel was well less than 0.1mm I think.

仕上がり状態。隙間は最大でも0.1mm以下に収まってると思います。

I cut out smoke tube holes with jewellers' saw and finished with rotary tool and half round file.

煙管の穴も糸鋸で切り抜いた上、ローターリーツール、ヤスリで仕上げ。

Both end plates fit nicely to the smoke tube.

煙管にきっちり、はまるように仕上げます。

I made an insert for barrel drilling. I laminated hardwood plates on hand to required size.

次に、缶胴加工用のインサートを作ります。有り合わせの堅木を缶胴より大きくなるように接着。

I mounted laminated wood to the lathe with four jaw chuck and live centre.

四爪チャックと回転センターで旋盤に取り付け。

Then turned it to the size.

ガンガン削ります。まあ、木だから楽ですね。あっという間に削れます。

Finished it with Scotchbrite.

スコッチブライトで仕上げ。

I used Scotchbrite until the barrel went easily to the insert.

缶胴がガタなく挿入できるようになるまで削ります。
