I prepared top coat colour. Paint to be used was Humrol Enamel. Basically mostly black, but usually black straight from the can or bottle is too black. So I mixed small amount of white and red. Mixture ratio was:

• 85 Coal Black SATIN (whole can) 12.7g
• 130 White SATIN 2.5g
• 174 Signal Red SATIN 3.1g
• Thinner 5g

上塗りの車体色を調色します。塗料はハンブロール・エナメル。黒なんですが、通常黒をそのまま使うと黒すぎるので、白を混ぜます。さらに灰色は青っぽく見えることが多いので赤も混ぜます。配合比は、

85 Coal Black SATIN 全缶　12.7g
130 White SATIN 2.5g
174 Signal Red SATIN　3.1g
シンナー 5g

としました。

Paint around lid and can opening to be wiped out thoroughly. Otherwise cured paint may drop in the can when the lid is opened later.

缶の蓋と口についた塗料はよくふき取ってから蓋を閉めます。そうしないと次に開けたとき固まった塗料が缶の中に落ちる可能性があります。

Test spray on CD test piece. This shows about one hour later after spray. Still the paint was sticky. Humbrol satin is not so shiny than I expected. I adjusted airbrush pressure to 2 Bar.

試験塗り。これは約一時間後、触ればまだ指紋はつきます。半艶を選んだんですが、艶も思ったよりないなー。あまり艶があるとあらが目立つのでこのくらいがいいかもしれません。ハンブロールはプライマーに比べものすごく塗るのが楽です。プライマーの時は４バールに設定した圧力は強すぎます。２バールでちょうどいい感じです。少し薄めすぎかもしれない。もう少し濃くてもいいと思います。

The book says paint used to be filtered before pouring to the airbrush. So I tried to filter it with small filter made from coffer filter, but it did not work at all with small amount for the airbrush. Nothing came out from the filter. I gave it up.

塗料は漉したほうがいいということが本に書いたあったのでコーヒーフィルターでこんなものを作り漉してみた。しかし、エアブラシに使うような量ではフィルターにたまったままで、まったく下に出てこない。量が多ければ漉せるんだろうが少量では無理。諦めた。

Basic black colour was sprayed in tow lots. I could not do it in one lot because of restriction of drying space and number of holding fixtures. I would paint smoke box with mat black and end beams with read later. The amount of paint I prepared barely enough for the job.

本体色はこのくらいの量を二回に分けて塗装した。保持具と乾燥場所の関係で一度にはできない。なお、煙室はつや消し、端梁は赤にする予定なので後で塗る。なお本体色は調整した分だけでかろうじて間に合った。

Painted boiler cladding. I satisfied with the result. Slight reddishness of black paint is seen at reflection.

ボイラー覆い。結構きれいに塗れた。黒が少し赤みがかっているのが反射のところでわかると思う。

Painted cylinder blocks. Combination of black and brass colour looks nice.

シリンダーブロックのマスキングを剥がした。黒と真鍮色の組み合わせはなかなかきれい。

Masking sol on the wheels does not come out easily. I should use masking tape.

動輪に使ったマスキング・ゾルが剥がせん。失敗であった。面倒でもマスキングテープを使うべきであった。
