Work to be done from now is exterior, mostly sheet metal work. It does not require accuracy as engine parts. I started from the cabin. The design was different from the textbook.

I made window frames from 30mm brass rod. Most of material turned into chips.

これからは外装の製作になります。板金が主で精度もあまり要求されないので気楽といえば気楽です。まずは運転室から。例によって、教科書のモノとはだいぶ違います。運転室前板の窓枠から作りました。30mmの真鍮丸棒を中ぐりでガンガン削る。材料がもったいないなー。ほとんど切子になっちゃう。

Burs were removed fine sandpaper as required.

サンドペーパーでバリを取りながら先に進みます。

Finished frames. I made them thinner than textbook ones.

出来上がった窓枠。

The spectacle plate was cut from 0.6mm brass sheet. I attached CAD printout by spray adhesive and cut it by No.0 jigsaw. The textbook explains how to cut the window hole using spade type wood drill, but jigsaw is much quicker.

運転室前板は0.6mmの真鍮板から切り出します。プリントアウトをスプレー糊で貼りつけて糸鋸で切ります。教科書には窓の丸穴は木の板ではさみ木工用の板ドリルで開けると良いと書いてありますが、こんなの糸鋸で切ったほうがずっと早い。

I provided two lines on printout a guide for cutting, and cut between these lines.

プリントアウトには切り出し部分に0.6mm幅で二本線を印刷し、その間を切っていきます。糸鋸は０番を使用。

I finished the window opening to have nice fit with frames.

丸窓の部分は窓枠を実際にはめながらぴったり嵌るように削ります。切り抜き完了。大した手間ではありません。

Side plates were cut in one piece. They were separated after finishing round parts.

運転室側板は左右あわせて切り抜き、切りかきのRを仕上げてから切り離します。

Filing could not give nice finish at round parts. I used rotary sandpaper.

ヤスリだけではきれいに仕上げられないので、R部分の仕上げはロータリーツールで行ないました。

Hand rail positions were centre-punched. This was probably the first time the centre punch used on ERIC, since I totally used mill indexing to get positions. Really I do not like centre-punching. It is not easy to make it just at centre. Using DRO is much easier.

手すり穴のポンチ打。ERICの製作ではほとんど初めてのポンチ打。ちゃんと中心にポンチを打つのはとても難しく好きな作業じゃありません。DROで位置だしする方がずっと簡単です。

Rivet punching. See here for details of my rivet press. I did not want rivets too much over-scaled and used 1.2mm die.

リベット打ち。リベット打ちだし器についてはこちら。あまりオーバースケールにしたくなかったのでリベットサイズは1.2mmとしました。

Guide of the rivet press cannot be used for the rivets inside. I pressed them only relying on print out.

内側のリベットにはリベット打ち出し器のガイドが使えないのでプリントアウトの位置に打っていきます。
