I made boiler cladding. The insulator I used was felt sheet bought from craft shop. I avoided felt from synthetic fabric and choose woolen one.

ボイラー覆いを作ります。断熱材は手芸センターで買ってきたフェルトを二枚重ねることにした。最近は化繊のフェルトが主流らしくウールのものはあまり置いていない。羊の国オーストラリアでウールのフェルトが入手難とはどういうこっちゃ？ちなみに買ったフェルトは台湾製であった。

The felt sheets were fixed to the boiler by white bond.

フェルトは木工用ホワイトボンドでボイラーに張り付けた。

I borrowed bending rolls from my friend to roll brass cladding. A piece on the rolls was test piece I tried.

覆いの真鍮板を曲げるためにこのような曲げロールを友人から借りてきた。上に乗ってるのはテストで曲げたものです。

Almost perfect fit. These rolls are very good giving nice bending to the ends of the sheets. I wanted to use 0.3mm brass sheet, bet this size was not available at a copper merchant nearby. So I bought 0.4mm shim sheet instead.

ほぼぴったり。この曲げロールはとてもいいです。御覧のように端までしっかり曲がる。真鍮板は0.3mmを使いたかったんだが近所の伸銅商では品切れであったのでシム用の0.4mmを買ってきた。

The sheet used was for shim and not flat. I cut it by jig saw and marked hole location. It would be better to make holes after rolling, but I had no idea how to make the holes after rolling. So I cut holes before rolling.

シム用なので板は平らではありません。ロール状です。糸鋸で切り出しボイラーブッシングの穴をけがきます。本来は曲げてから穴をあけるんでしょうが教科書では曲げる前にあけることになってるので開けてしまいます。

I cut the holes by jig saw.

穴は糸鋸で切り抜き。

The sheet was gradually rolled.

徐々に曲げていきます。

Rolled brass cladding. It rolled very nicely.

曲げ終わったボイラー覆い。とても奇麗に曲がりました。

It fitted on the boiler.

ボイラーにかぶせてみます。

There were nearly no gaps observed among cladding, cab and smoke box.

運転室、煙室との間にもほとんど隙間はできず、ぴったり出来ました。

I used 3X0.3mm brass strip for the boiler bands. They were lightly rolled by bending rolls. I made securing angles from annealed 1X3mm brass strip. The textbook suggested bending the ends of the bands to form angles, but I did not like this way.

ボイラーバンドは3X0.3mmの真鍮帯板を使用。曲げロールで軽く曲げてあります。締め付けねじ用のアングルは焼きなました3X1mm真鍮帯板を曲げて作った。教科書ではバンドの端を折り曲げてタップを立てることになっているが気に食わないので変更。

The band and angles were temporarily fixed by 0.8mm brass wire and silver soldered using silver solder paste.

バンドにアングルを0.8mm真鍮線をかしめて仮止めし、銀ローペーストで銀ローづけ。

The bands were tightened by M1.7 screws.

M1.7のビスで締め付ける。

Finished boiler cladding.

ボイラー覆い完成。
