I made the steam dome. Really I do not like this job so much. This includes lot of hand filing and very cumbersome. At first I shaped one end of 40mm brass rod to boiler cladding diameter with fly cutter.

ドームを作ります。これは結構面倒です。まずは40mmの真鍮丸棒の一端をフライカッターでボイラー覆いの径に削ります。

The work was moved to the lathe and R part of the plinth was turned.

これを旋盤に移して本体部分と裾の上部Rを切削。

M8 fine was tapped and recess for bushing was bored.

ヤトイ取り付け用のM8細目のねじを立て、ブッシング入る部分を中繰り。

I parted off the work by widening the groove by moving parting off bit right and left.

深い突っ切りなのでバイトを左右に動かして溝を拡げながら切ります。

The work parted off.

突っ切り完了。

When I turning the top of the dome mounted on a mandrel the mandrel was broken! I made this mandrel when I made smoke box door and I drilled the centre of the mandrel to loosen the work. This drilling made the mandrel weaker.

ヤトイにつけて上部を切削中にヤトイが折れてしまった！これは以前煙室扉を削ったときに使ったヤトイで真ん中に穴があいているので弱かったのだ。

Fortunately the broken screw came out easily.

幸いに折れたネジは簡単に取り出すことができた。

I made new mandrel and applied Molybdenum grease to make loosening easier. I made shape bit for the R of the dome top.

ヤトイを作り直し、作業後ゆるみやすくするためにモリブデングリスを塗ってドームをねじ込んだ。上部のRは姿バイトを作って削った。

I polished the dome with Scotch-Brite, but the dome might have lot of scratches when it filed.

スコッチブライトで磨いてみた。あとのヤスリ作業で傷だらけになるはずなので意味無いんだけど。
