“Hanawa Line” was a local line in Tohoku District of Japanese Main Island. The line joint Kouma near Morioka and Oodate through beautiful mountainous area close to national parks. We used to visit the line on the way to Hokkaidou. We left Tokyo by a night train arriving Kouma early in next morning and caught the first train to head to “Ryuugamori.” Ryuugamori was a famous among railway enthusiasts. The grade at Ryuugamori was quite steep as 33.3 ‰ , and sometimes triple header of JNR 8620 class was seen.

There was a ski field next to Ryuugamori station. The carriages seen on left were decommissioned carriages used for skiers' accommodation.
