Chikuhou Main Line was located in Chikuhou area in North Kyuusyuu. Chikuhou area was known as coal mining and Chikuhou Main Line was built to transport the coal. Chikuhou area flourished with coal mining in coal age, but declined with growth of oil economy. By late 1970's all mines around the line were closed.
