Dawn of the Great Loop. This train was the first train arriving Okoba in the morning. Unless staying overnight at Okoba, it was impossible to take this picture. There was no accommodation available in Okaba, and we stayed in the waiting room of Okoba station in sleeping bags. We usually went down to Hitoyoshi to take dinner and bath and come back to Okoba or Masaki to sleep in the waiting rooms. The station staffs were kind enough to allow us to stay in the waiting room.

Some times we cooked our dinner in the station kitchen.

The author resting in the station waiting room. Most railway enthusiasts then wore clothes like mountain climbers. We felt such clothes were not cool at all and used to wear ordinary jacket and pnats.

Dawn in Oono valley. Oono valley was located between Okoba and Yatake. To take the first trains there we had to leave Okoba station before sun rise.

There was a sort of frontier settlement around Okoba station. Frontier settlements were very rare in Japan except Hokkaidou area. It shows the area Hisatsu Line ran was outlaying. The foreground was a mulberry field to feed silkworms.
