I cut out sleepers from 12mm thick hardwood by a bandsaw. The thickness of the sleepers was 9mm to match to club sleeper and rails. I used 3mm wide bandsaw blade came with the bandsaw at first, but it did not cut straight. I replaced the blade with 10mm one.

枕木をバンドソーで切り出しているところです。12mm厚の堅木板から切り出しました。枕木の高さはクラブレールの高さに合わせるために9mmとした。このバンドソー3mm幅の刃が付いてきたんだがこれではまっすぐ切れない。10mm幅の刃に取り替えました。

I sanded the sleepers with orbital sander fixed on a work bench. Better to use belt sander, I don't have one.

切り出した枕木はワークベンチに固定したサンダーで仕上げた。ベルトサンダーがあると楽なんだが持ってないのでしょうがない。

I treated the sleepers with outdoor furniture oil.

枕木はoutdoor furniture oilというやつで色をつけ、多少は耐候性を持たせる。

Sleepers were temporarily fixed on printout for spiking.

プリントアウトに枕木を仮止めします。なお、この枕木は着色前です。

When I spiked rail to a sleeper I found the spikes I had were too long. I decided to change the sleeper size to 12X12mm to accept the spikes.

Also I found spiking on hardwood was very hard and need pilot holes for spikes. So I decided to change the sleeper material to red cider that supposed to be strong against water and soft enough to spike without pilot holes. Applying furniture oil was also cumbersome and I decided not to apply it to the sleepers.

ところがレールをスパイクしたところ、とんでもないことが発覚。スパイクが長すぎる（約12mm）！困ったな。しかも堅木だと下穴を開けないとスパイクが打ち込めない。非常に面倒。しょうがないので枕木を12X12mmのRed Cedarに変更することにしました。杉は水につよいのでいいかもしれません。塗装も面倒なので、省略することにします。クラブレールとのつなぎ方は後で考えます。

I pressed in the spikes with modified pliers. I made them when I hand laid 13mm gauge (1/80 13mm gauge for 3-1/2' track) almost half century ago.

スパイクはスパイク専用ヤトッコで押し込みます。これは13mmゲージの線路をスパイクするために40年以上前に作ったものです。

Spikes can be driven to reasonable depth without pilot holes.

スパイクを押し込んでいるところ。杉は柔らかいので下穴無しでかなりのところまで押し込めます。

It is too hard to push in the spikes only by pliers. I used a nail punch and hummer to drive the spikes deeper.

さすがに最後までヤットコで押しこむのは無理で最後は釘締めとハンマーで打ち込みました。
