I am an old fashioned man and love traditional Japanese tools very much. I use this craft knife most. The blade is a sort of composite metal similar to Japanese swords. The shiny part is high carbon steel to give sharp cuts and dull coloured part is mild steel. Sharpening the knife is not easy at all. 私古い人間なので伝統的な和工具が大好きです。この小刀は一番良く使う工具です。カッターナイフよりはるかに良く使います。研ぐのは大変ですが、うまく研げた時は美しい刃を見ているだけで幸せになれます。 日本の刃物って最高です。よく切れるし、美しい。手入れをする楽しみってのもあります。オーストラリアで売ってる刃物って全然よくないんですね。イギリス製の結構高いノミを以前買ったんですが、話しになりませんでした。なまくらもいいとこで、研ぐとベロベロに返りが出ます。こんな刃物を研ぐのは苦痛以外の何物でもありません。 ステンレスの刃物も全て嫌いです。基本的にステンレスってみんななまくらなんですね。私が料理するときは錆びる鉄の包丁をよく研いで使います。ステンレス包丁なんて論外です。 |

I use this Japanese plane with wooden base (back) quite often. I also have so called balsa-plane (front), but never use it because it is not comfortable to use. I use the Japanese plane almost any purpose. However this plane needs extensive care. この鉋も良く使います。手前のバルサ鉋も持ってますが、使いにくいので全く使いません。あらゆる用途にこの普通サイズの鉋を使ってます。しかし鉋の手入れは大変です。 ところで和鉋って一番快感を得られる道具じゃないかと思っています。よく研いだ鉋で杉材を削るのってなんて気持ち良いんだろう。 |

These stones are the minimum requirement to maintain my Japanese plane and craft knife. Two medium grain stones are necessary to keep flatness of the stones by grinding them each other. A diamond stone is used to fix cracked part of blades. 鉋、小刀の手入れに中砥2個、仕上げ砥1個、荒砥（ダイアモンド砥石）が必要です。中砥は平面を出すためにすり合わせるので2個必要。ダイアモンド砥石は刃がかけた時とか糸裏出しとかに使います。 |

The base of the Japanese plane is made of hard wood and is prone to wear in use. It is necessary to grind the base by sand papers stuck on a piece of glass plate time by time. 和鉋の台ってすぐに減るので、頻繁に平面を出してやらねばなりません。私の場合、スチロールをいつも削っているのでよく減るようです。ガラス板の上に120番のサンドペーパーを貼り付けて削り、ペーパーを240番に換えて仕上げます。このとき刃を抜いてしまうと台の反りが変わってしまうので、入れたまま、刃を少し引っ込めた状態で削ります。 |

It is almost impossible to sharpen the plane blade in correct angle just by hands for armatures like me. I use a sharpening jig. 私のような素人に鉋の刃を手で一定角度に研ぐことはほとんど不可能なので、このような研ぎジグを使って刃先角度を30度しています。 |

This Japanese chisel is a quite dangerous tool. Its edge seems dull, but very sharp as a razor. I cut my fingers many time with it. The structure of the blade is similar to cheep Japanese swords; mild steel core is surrounded by high-carbon steel at sides and edge. In good Japanese swords the core is surrounded by high-carbon steel all around. あまり使いませんが、こんなノミもあります。これはとても危険な道具で、大して切れそうに見えないのにカミソリ並みに切れます。何度も指を切りました。 |

Added: This is the best and quickest file in my asset for styrene and resin. I bought this about 30 years ago. However I damaged this by filing aerated concrete. I look around shops for this type of files, but could not find any. Finally I resharpened the file with rotary tool with a diamond bit.木工用やすりですが、30年ほど前に購入した物です。スチロール、レジンには実はこれ最高にいいんですよ。実に気持ちよくさくさく削れます。以前発泡コンクリートを削って、だめにしてしまいました。日本に行った時、代わりを東急ハンズで探したんですがみつかりませんでした。仕方が無いのでロータリーツールのダイヤモンドビットで目立をして再生しました。 |
Added: I found this pipe cutter in a two dollar shop. It only costed $3 to $4. It is very handy to cut any round object in exact right angle. I use it to cut brass pipes and even styrene rods.＄2ショップ（こちらの￥１００ショップ）で見つけたパイプカッターです。3mmから28mmまで切れるものが、A＄3ちょっとでした。完璧に直角に切れるので重宝しています。真鍮パイプはもちろん、スチロール棒もこれで切断しています。 |
