Roof of Shishigatani station house was clad by thin aluminium plates from beer can. Heat expansion of the aluminium plate caused faulty joints and many plates were loosening. Originally I wanted to make the roof tiled, but could not manage make it by myself. There would be some ready made roof tiles for G-scale on the market, but they could not be Japanese type anyway. This time I decided to make roof tiling from the scratch by resin casting. 鹿ケ谷駅舎の屋根トタン葺きということでビール缶のアルミ板をはりました。でも外に置いておいたところ、直射日光にあぶられ、膨張し、浮き上がってしまいました。完成時と比べると悲惨な状態です。もともと瓦屋根にしたかったのですが、作れそうもないのであきらめていましたが、レジンの複製でできそうなのでやってみることにします。市販のものも探せばあるんでしょうがGスケールの日本風瓦があるわきゃない。西洋風のものは日本建築には合わないので純日本風のものを自作することにします。 |

At first I gathered information about Japanese roof tiling. Basic Japanese roof tiles are as seen on the left and different from Australian tiles. I could not understand well the purpose of notches on the tiles shown by arrows. まづは和瓦の資料をネットで探しました。以下のサイトがとても参考になりました。 |

I used 1mm lead plate to duplicate the curvature of the tile. この微妙なカーブを出すために1mmの鉛板を曲げて切り出しました。実物は305X305mmなので1/24で約13X13mm. |

I duplicated this with resin and made two types of tile masters, eave and flat tiles. The roof was hipped roof and I needed only two types of tiles. However with gabled roof six types of tiles are needed. これをレジンで複製して、軒瓦と平瓦の原型としました。 |

I joined five tiles together to make masters for mass-production. The joints were reinforced with CA putty. More flat tile would be required. So I made two masters of flat tiles. Obviously if I made a large joined panel the mass-production would be much easier. Lager panel would have difficulty to absorb heat expansion than smaller one. So I decided to join only five together.. できた瓦を5枚ずつ接着して、量産マスターとします。継ぎ目には裏から瞬間パテで補強。平瓦はたくさん必要なので、原型を2個にしました。たくさんくっつけて、大きな原型を作れば楽なんですが、熱膨張を吸収するためには小さく分割した方がいいので、5枚を一体としました。 |
