The bonnet is about getting its shape and I start to make the radiator. It should be like this. This does not seem simple at all. The radiator seems being constructed from several vertical units. At first I start from the parts arrowed.

ボンネットが何とか形になったのでラジエターを作ることにします。要はこんな感じなんですが、これもかなりややこしいですね。どうもユニットラジエターを何本か並べたって感じですね。まず矢印の部品から作ることにしました。

I made the parts from styrene. The bolthead were made from heat stretched hexagon styrene rod. Anyway it is too hard to see if they are hexagon or not.

いつもの様にスチロールで作ります。取り付けボルトは六角のスチロール棒を熱で伸ばしたものですが、どうせ肉眼では見えませんね。

I cut it into many parts using a jig.

これをジグでほぼ一定の幅に切断。

Cut parts were laminated together to make fin element. These parts will be bread by resin casting.

大量に切った上記の部品を積層し周りをやすりで仕上げれば、一応ラジエターのフィンっぽくは見えるでしょう。これらをレジンで大量生産します。

The front panel of the radiator was made from brass sheets. Part “A” was etched to have logo emboss. Pat “B” was cut out from 0.8mm brass.

ラジエターの前面は真鍮板で作ります。A部は1mmの真鍮板をエッチングでロゴを浮き彫りにしたもの。B部は0.8mmの真鍮板から切り出しました。

Parts soldered together.

上のものを半田付けして、整形。

The radiator has protection bars. I made them from 1mm brass wire. One end of the piece of wire was bent and squashed on a vice.

ラジエターの前面には保護棒がついてるんですが、これがまた面倒そうです。1mmの真鍮線を万力に挟み一端をハンマーで潰します。

Other end was also squashed. The length between bends was critical. I made cut and try couple of times to get proper length.

反対側も潰しますが、この間隔が問題で、３回ほど試行錯誤しています。

Then the wire was bent using a jig, 1.6mm steel plate with 1mm width notch.

これを1.6tの鉄板に１mm幅の切り込みを入れたジグを使って曲げます。

When bent the wire a piece of lead plate was placed to protect the wire.

このとき鉛の板を介して、真鍮線がきずつかないようにします。

Squashed parts were drilled with 0.8mm drill using a pin vice and shaped.

つぶした部分にピンバイスを使って0.8mmの穴をあけ、整形します。

Finished protection rod was soldered to the radiator frame via 0.8mm brass wires.

できた保護棒を0.8mmの真鍮線を介して、ラジエターの前枠に半田付け。

All seven bars were installed. Back side was filed down flush.

七本全部つけて、裏を削って平らにすればラジエターの前枠の金属工作は完了です。
