Next to be made was the bonnet. I would make the loco as its side covers removed and the engine exposed. So the bonnet could not be a simple box. I made the frame of the bonnet from brass sheets. I planed to use 1mm sheet only, but 1mm sheet was running out. So I had to use 1mm and 0.8mm sheets.

下回りは一応できたので、上回りに移ります。エンジンが見えるように前半分のカバーを外して状態にするので、ボンネットは結構ややこしい構造になります。真鍮板で枠を作ります。全部1mmで作るつもりでしたが、手持ちがあまり残ってないので、0.8mmも併用。プリントアウトを貼り付けて、ケガキとします。

Parts were soldered using a right angle jig.

直角ジグを使って半田付けして行きます。

The bonnet covers have cast handles like this. At first I though to use simple brass wire to make them. But just round wire did not seem nice at all.

ボンネットカバーには取っ手がついているわけですが、鋳物で、こんなかっこをしています。最初は単に真鍮線をを曲げたものにしようと思っていたんですが、感じが出ないなー。

So I decided to make handles as above. Turned a piece of 1.5mm brass wire as this. The diameter of the thinnest parts was 0.8mm.

で、上のようなものを作ってしまう事にしました。まず、1.5mmの真鍮線をモーターツールで削って、こんなかっこにします。細い部分は0.8mmです。

The turned wire was annealed and bent. The centre part was filed down.

これを焼き鈍し、曲げてから、太い部分を削って薄くし形を整えます。

Then the handle was inserted to the holes on 0.5mm brass sheet and soldered. Also mounting holes were drilled.

0.5mmの真鍮板の穴に入れて半田付け。さらに取り付け穴も開けて。

Cut it out and filed it down to the shape. I do not want to make three more of this. I will try to cast them.

これを切り出して、形を整えれば完成。こんな面倒なもの後三個も作る気しないので複製を考えます。
