Urethane, not completely cured, is much easier to shape comparing to styrene. I used sharp chisel (Japanese chisel. It is really sharp. I can cut wet tissue paper with it.) for rough shaping. Then finished with files. Details will be added later.

完全に硬化する前のウレタン樹脂はスチロールより加工が楽です。完全に固まらないうちにノミでラフに削り、やすりで仕上げます。ディテールは後で付けます。

I made a mistake in dimensions of the engine block. So I made the width of the crankcase bit wider by styrene sheets and filled the gap with putty.

げっ、ちょっと寸法を間違えてしまった。スチロール板でクランクケース部を少し広くして、隙間をパテうめ。

I made the transmission by styrene sheet and square rods. Then shaped with epoxy putty. Details, ignition equipment and cooling water tubes, are partially added on engine block.

トランスミッションはスチロール板、スチロール棒から適当に骨格を作って、エポキシパテで形を整えます。エンジンには点火系と冷却系のデテイルが加わっています。

I could not find any data of the petrol engines in 1930's. So just I design the dummy engine based on modern ones. I assumed the engine is 4 cylinder OHV. However I am not sure the OHV was common in 1930's. Maybe side valve engines were still used then. Anyway this is the left side of the finished details. I omitted intake manifold because it would not been seen.

1930年代のガソリンエンジンがどんなものだったか全然わかりません。ＯＨＶは普通だったのかなー？それともまだサイドバルブ？しょうがないので昔よくいじくっていた1970年代のＯＨＶエンジンを思い出しつつモデルにすることに。これはデテイルの完成した左側。インテークマニホールドはどうせ見えないので省略。

Finished right side of the dummy engine. Hmm it seems too modern. I though I made it as a dry-sump engine and put an external oil tank, but I already made lot of details. So I decided to make it as wet-sump engine.

できがった右側。う〜〜ん、あんまり古く見えないなー。はじめはドライサンプエンジンと言うことにして、外部オイルタンクをつけようと思っていたんだけど、せっかく作ったデテイルが隠れてしまうので、急遽ウエットサンプエンジンに変更。
