The boiler is to be fixed at its rear to the footplate. So I made a boiler mounting bracket. The material was bronze plate off cut from dummy smoke door. According to the text book this bracket is fixed by high temperature solder to the boiler without any temporary alignment means. I did not believe I could do it accurately. So I decided to fix the bracket by screw to the boiler and silver solder it.

ボイラーは後部でキャブ床板に固定されるのでそのためのブラケットを作ります。材料はダミー煙室扉を作った時の端切れのブロンズ板。とりあえずこんなものを作ります。ところでこの部品、教科書ではボイラー完成後に高温半田でつけることになってますが、正確な位置に仮止めもなしにつけられるわけもないので、ボイラーに仮止め、銀ロウ付けすることにしました。

I cut curved part of the bracket as the same way as smoke box saddle.

ボイラーに接する部分は煙室サドルを作った時と同様の方法で凹面をつけます。

I made water gauge fittings. I turned them from 10mm brass rod. This photo shows the hole to fit the tubing to connect between the barrel and fitting. The coaxial hole must be drilled at first. Then side hole to be drilled. I would use 5mm glass tube for the gauge. So I made hole diameter 5.1mm.

次に水面計のフィッティングを作ります。10mmの真鍮から削り出し。これはボイラーとつなぐ銅管の入る穴を開けているところです。まず、材料と同軸の穴をあけてから横の穴を開けないとうまくいきません。一度失敗しています。5mmガラス管を使用するので中心孔は5.1mmとしました。

The connecting tube was made from 1/4” copper tube. The upper tube was bent with this setting. I worried about squashing the tube, but it squashed only slightly.

ボイラーと水面計フィッティングは1/4"の銅管でつなぎます。上部用は焼き鈍してからこのようなセッティングでいい加減に曲げました。まあ、径が細いので、ほとんど潰れずにそこそこきれいに曲げられました。

The fitting and tube were silver soldered.

フィッティングとチューブを銀ロウ付け。いかん、写真ではチューブが抜けかけている。もちろん修正してから銀ロウ付けした。

All metal work for the boiler making was completed. However I have to have an inspection of the metal work from club boiler inspector. So I have to suspend the boiler making for a while.

これで、銀ロウ付けで組み立てるボイラー部品はすべて揃いました。組立て前にクラブのボイラー・インスペクターの検査を受けなけれがならない。次のクラブ・ミーティングで検査を受ける予定なのでボイラー工作はしばらくお休みです。
