Shinjuku to Akihabara

大雪の日の新宿停留所。東京にしてはかなりの雪ですね。この様子では都電も運休していて終点に車両がたまってしまったんでしょう。

Shinjyuku tram stop was covered by snow. This snow fall was large as in Tokyo and stopped tram service. So many tram cars stuck at Shinjyuku stop.

う～ん、この軽トラは渋いなー。どこのやつなんだろう。都電の運転は再開されたようです。

Tram service started.

新宿の回送線です。野良犬、壊れた屋台、トルコの看板などいかにも新宿の裏側って感じですね。この回送線Google Mapで調べると今は遊歩道になってるようですね。

There was a dedicated deadhead line behind the Shinjuku main streets. A masterless dog, broken food cart, signs of sex-related shops etc. made up an atmosphere of the back of downtown Shinjyuku.

この場所を同定しようと、この前日本に行ったとき見に行ったんですが、えらく変わっていて同定不可能でした。

I wanted to determine above location and visited the place the line used to be when I was in Tokyo for business trip. However the place had changed so much and it was impossible for me to determine the place.

新田裏停留所。ここからちょっと行くと専用線になったと思うんですが。Google Mapでみると、新田裏もそうですが角筈、三光町などの名前は無くなっちゃったんですね。新宿何丁目なんて味気ない名前になってますね。

Around “Shinden” stop. The area has been changed so much. It was hard to locate this place on Google Map.

専用線を行くと途中に大久保の車庫があるわけです。女性の服装に時代を感じます。

Ookubo tram depot.

この場所の記憶がなくGoogle MapのStreet Viewで見つけました。御茶ノ水のちょっと手前ですね。

I could not remember this place and finally found out by Google Street View. It was take near “Ochanomizu.”

雪の湯島天神です。ここまでくれば秋葉原はもうすぐです。

“Yushima Tenjin” shrine in snow. Very close to Akihabara.

休日の１３系統は空いてましたねー。運転士に車掌二人、乗客は私一人なんてのもよくあったわけで、当時としては残念であっても廃止になるのは仕方ないかという気がしたものです。

In weekends the trams were not crowded at all. Some times an operator and two conductors and only one passenger, I, were carried. I felt it would be too hard to justify keeping operation of tram in Tokyo then.
